Documented Awards

1921 Won first prize at the Butler Institute of American Art for his painting “Spring.” Was also awarded both the Gillespie and Gage prizes! The Gillespie Galleries of Pittsburgh award was made by Mr. Gatz, an art critic out of Chicago, and the Gatz award was made by Mr. Gage of Cleveland.
1922 Awarded the John Frederick Lewis prize at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. John Lewis was then the President of this most important academy, so this award was considered a highly regarded accomplishment.
1930 Was awarded the first, second, and third prize by the voting public at the YWCA exhibition in Warren, Ohio. This was a major event where over 2000 attended. Many other artists exhibited their so winning all three awards was a spectacular achievement.
1930s Won first prize at a show in Warren, Ohio sponsored by the Trumbull Art Gallery.

John L. Lloyd exhibited and won more awards than this chronology suggests, however, time frames for these events were unable to be accurately defined.
